Three hundred and sixty five of life's little moments. - MMDS

Tumblr is telling me that I’ve used my photo quota for the day, so the rest of the upload will have to wait.  I’ll leave you with another picture of Macouley.  He’s a super sweet cat, but a little dumb.  He only drinks out of the sink, but he can’t figure out how to take a sip without getting his head wet.  He looks at the running water, paws at it, then resigns to dunking his head under the stream and licking the sink.  Then he shakes his head angrily, torn between the frustration of being wet and the satisfaction of fresh water.  He can’t seem to figure out how to turn his head.  Silly guy.

More updates tomorrow!

Day 228.  Above you’ll find Macouley, the roommate’s cat.  He loved hanging out with us and loved the extra attention.  Overall, today was a relatively relaxing day after Matthew left for Yosemite.  Joe, Beth and Christine taught me how to play Cribbage and Setback while sitting outside by the lake.  Then we headed back downtown for an awesome dinner at the Pink Door.

Day 227.  Headed Kayaking today around the University district.  I’ve never kayaked before and it was really fun (my shoulders thought otherwise).  Later, we headed to a little pub to watch Game 7 of the Stanely Cup.  We were one of two groups of Bruin’s fans amongst a sea of Vancouver fans, but we still cheered the loudest (might have been the Irish car bombs we had, or the $1 well shot).

Day 226.  Went hiking in the Cascades today, then to the Red Hook Brewery.  We discovered the greatness of shower beers (an ice cold beer in a warm, much-needed-post-hiking-shower).

Day 225. Spent the day in Downtown Seattle.  Of course we had to stop at Pike’s Place Market.  I still can’t get over how beautiful the flowers were (and so cheap!).  I definitely think I could live in the Pacific Northwest.  Loved the flying fish, loved the beautiful views for the library and loved the coffee from a little hole in the wall.  After a day of walking around the city, we headed home for a good old fashioned dinner.

Day 224.  We’re in Seattle!  Matthew and Christine picked us up at the airport and we headed to Freemont for the open market.  While we were there, we decided to venture to find the Freemont troll.  He lives under a bridge.  See the Beetle under his hand?  That evening, we headed to happy hour and to see the locks.  The Salmon weren’t in full swing yet (we only saw two or three swimming up the ladder) but it was a neat sight.  The gardens were beautiful!

Day 223.  Headed out on a boat tour of Angel Island and Alcatraz.  We started with a brisk hike to the top of Angel Island.  Our ferry left in two hours and we were told it takes about an hour and forty-five to hike up to the top.  We had our deadline and we crushed it!  An hour and thirty, max.  Next, we headed to Alcatraz.  It was really neat!  There were lots of things I had never realized.  Like, did you know Alcatraz served as a military gate protecting the west?  Did you know that Al Capone stayed at Alcatraz?  Or that the wives of the guards planted beautiful gardens on the rock?  Or that Native Americans claimed the island as “Indian land” after the close of the prison as a stand for their rights?

Day 222.  Another action packed day.  We started the day heading to Lombard Street, this beautiful, super curvy, hilly road.  Then we headed to the San Francisco Zoo.  There was lots to see (a really nice zoo with great conservation efforts) and it wasn’t too crowded.  We saw a brown bear catch a live salmon in his pond (much to the shagreen of the children looking through the glass at the time.  MOM! HE’S EATING THE FISH!!! EWWW!!!).  Later that evening, we dressed up and headed to Burboun and Branch, the local speakeasy for a few cocktails and a wonderful time.

Day 221.  We did a lot today.  First, we stopped by the Golden Gate Bridge Park.  It was a little chilly and foggy (I know now why Mark Twain said the coldest winter he ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco), but it was a really nice time.  Then, we headed out to Sonoma Valley to sample a few of their finest vintages.  I really liked Benziger.  On our way home, instead of sitting in traffic, we went to Muir Woods, a beautiful public park with breathtaking Red Woods.

Day 220.  Headed out to a SF Giants game.  It was probably one of the quickest game’s I’ve ever been to —- game was over in roughly two hours of play.  A neat thing about the park is that they let you enter through the Public House, pick up your favorite microbrew, and bring it into the park with you.  I payed roughly the same for a super-hoppy Leviathan that I would have payed for a Bud-light inside the park.  Good deal!  Joe, Beth and I also walked about the park, hung out on the Trolleys and had a generally great day.
